Handmade home decor from scrap materials

Out of sight, out of mind - usually this is the regime that all modern people adhere to regarding unnecessary things. Everyone is generally afraid of Plyushkin syndrome and all kinds of collecting: it is unfashionable, unaesthetic, outdated and non-functional. But is everything always so sad and bad?

Remember how great it was as a child to sit in class with friends, listen to simple songs on the radio and make a craft for your mother for March 8th. Or to dad on February 23rd. Or for the whole family for the New Year. How cool it was to then run home with the craft and give it to loved ones! How they were happy and put your work of art in the most prominent place. And every time you glanced at him, you were filled with a feeling of happiness and lightness of being.

Do you remember? Are you sad about the good past? What if we invite you to travel there for a while and plunge headlong into your childhood?!

For some, handmade decor is a way to make money (specialized websites are full of offers and orders!), for some it is a hobby, and for others it is a reason to put feelings in order, relax and, perhaps, transform the apartment for the better. It seems that all these goals are important and correct, and if they can be combined, they are also very multifaceted. In general, a complete profit!

Handmade is when something is “made by hand.” This includes everything that you can think of and create using threads, glue, paper, wood, glass and the list goes on. And what you get in the end will be unique! A wide variety of materials and techniques for making decor yourself allows you to free your imagination as much as possible from any shackles and allow you to create in the full breadth of existing ideas.

Pros of handmade:

exclusive and unique items;
emphasizes the style of a particular home;
environmentally friendly;
relatively inexpensive;
calms the nerves;
develops thinking and fine motor skills;
handmade works can be sold at a good price.

Disadvantages of handmade:the first damn thing is lumpy. The result may differ from what is desired;
takes a lot of time and effort;
It’s hard to stick to exclusive ideas; the desire to repeat can sometimes win out, which reduces the uniqueness of the result.

It is worth clarifying that any decor, including handmade, is divided into seasonal and permanent. The first includes themed decorations for a specific holiday or even time of year - for a wedding, New Year and, say, Halloween. The second is timeless: it does not depend on life events and implies a permanent, unchanging decoration of the house.

In general, something made by yourself is beautiful, stylish and exclusive. And to transform your home, you don’t have to shell out a large sum of money at the cash register of a hardware store - just take a closer look at the world around you, figure out what you want to do first, select the necessary materials for this and start creating.

As an example, we present to you a selection of cozy and completely functional decorative elements that you can make yourself from scrap materials.

Banks . Grandmothers and mothers always have a lot of them. Professors of twists and pickles - they know exactly how valuable and necessary jars are. We know this too, but we need jars for completely different uses: to make a vase, a chandelier, a lamp, dishes and even a storage container - not only for bulk products, but also for memories. Scroll and get inspired!

Bottles. A logical continuation of the can endeavors will be handmade from bottles. Here you can choose a greater number of shape variations and create stylish candlesticks, vases and the same containers for storing something.

Paper. Do you want something simple, sweet and pretty? Meet paper decor. Simple to implement, easy to replace. You can make origami, create a photo zone, and stylishly decorate the walls with posters, photographs and paintings of your own making.

Network. If you have already mastered some types of handmade, you can improve your skills - for example, by mastering new techniques. Wicker is a great option to flex your brains, practice fine motor skills, and decorate your home with stylish stands, storage boxes, intricate pots, and even a real sea net.

Leaves. The herbarium is relevant, probably for all times. And in kindergarten, and at school, and at an older age, it is impossible to come up with something more native, simple and beautiful than a craft made from leaves. Take a closer look, maybe a fan made of dried maple above the entrance to the room or a homemade bouquet of dried flowers is exactly what your interior was missing?

Textile. Warm decor with its beauty can warm you up on cold autumn evenings and is filled with functionality. For example, a carpet or blanket sewn from the remnants of different types of fabric will be a wonderful and stylish addition to any bedroom.

Would you like to decorate your mansions with something homemade, made by your own hands?
